A twin waterfall, a gravity-defying rock and a three-headed palm — the Boti Falls area packs several of the Eastern Region’s curiosities into one green day out. Here’s how to do it by car.

The Eastern Region, in the green hills north of Accra, is full of small natural wonders, and the Boti Falls area gathers several of them together. The falls themselves are a graceful twin cascade tumbling into a gorge; a short walk away stand the much-photographed Umbrella Rock, a broad flat stone balanced on a narrow column, and a curious three-headed palm tree. It is a lush, easygoing day out, close enough to Accra for a comfortable round trip, and a car lets you take it all in at your own pace.
The highlight is the twin waterfall — two streams falling side by side into a pool, known locally as the “male” and “female” falls, which are said to occasionally meet in the fullest season. A staircase leads down into the green gorge to the foot of the falls. Beyond the falls, a guided walk through the surrounding countryside takes in the Umbrella Rock and the Three-Headed Palm, local curiosities that make the trip more than just a waterfall visit.

Boti Falls lies in the hills near Koforidua, roughly a two to two-and-a-half-hour drive from Accra heading north into the Eastern Region. The main roads are good, and the greenery builds beautifully as you climb into the hills. It makes a satisfying day trip, and pairs well with other Eastern Region spots or a stop in Koforidua itself; our Accra to Koforidua guide covers the route and the wider area.
Plan to do the three together. The staircase down to the falls is the main effort of the day — manageable for most, but worth knowing about if mobility is a concern — and the pool and gorge at the bottom are lovely and cool. The guided walk to Umbrella Rock and the Three-Headed Palm is gentle and rewarding, with a local guide pointing out the sights and the stories attached to them. Bring water, wear decent shoes for the steps and the walk, and allow a few unhurried hours.
The falls are at their most dramatic in the rainy season, roughly June to September, when the water is full and powerful; in the drier months the flow is gentler. The surrounding hills are green and pleasant year-round, so the trip is worthwhile whenever you go — just set your expectations for the falls accordingly, and check conditions locally if the waterfall is your main reason for the trip.

A saloon is fine for the roads to Boti; a family might prefer an SUV for space. A driver for the day makes it a relaxed outing, or self-drive if you prefer. We quote the trip as a return journey from Accra — distance, fuel and driver in one figure. Send your date and group size and we’ll confirm the car and price; no payment on the website.
