Mobile Money runs Ghana’s everyday economy, and car rental is no exception. Here is how paying for a hire by MoMo works, what to check, and the other ways you can settle.

If you live in Ghana, you already know: Mobile Money is how the country pays for things. From market stalls to utility bills, MoMo has become the default, and car rental fits right in. So the short answer to the common question — can I pay for a hire car with Mobile Money? — is yes. This guide explains how it works in practice, how deposits and balances are handled, how to make sure your payment is safe, and what other options you have, including paying from abroad.
Yes. We accept Mobile Money as a standard way to pay for car rental, alongside bank transfer and cash. All three major networks work — MTN MoMo, Telecel Cash and AirtelTigo Money — so whichever you use day to day, you can settle your hire the same way. It is quick, it gives you an instant record of payment, and it avoids carrying cash for a deposit.

In practice it is simple. Once we have agreed your vehicle, dates and price, we send you the payment details for our official Mobile Money account. You transfer the deposit (and later the balance) from your MoMo wallet, the transaction confirms in seconds, and we hold the vehicle for your dates. You keep the confirmation message as your receipt, and we confirm receipt from our side. The whole thing can be done from your phone without a trip to a bank or an office.
Mobile Money is especially handy for the two payments a rental involves. The deposit — the amount that actually reserves your vehicle for your dates — can be sent by MoMo the moment you book, which matters when a car or a bus is in demand and a verbal hold is not enough. The balance is then settled before or on the day you collect. For self-drive, remember there is also a separate refundable security deposit held against the vehicle; our cost guide and what’s included guide explain how that works.
Mobile Money is safe when you take one basic precaution: confirm you are paying the company’s official, registered account. Before you send, check that the account name that comes up matches the business, and only use details given to you directly by the company through your booking conversation — never a number forwarded from somewhere else. A legitimate operator will happily confirm their official payment details and give you a written quote and receipt. If anything about a payment request feels off, stop and call the company on their listed number. Our guide on avoiding car rental scams covers the warning signs.
Mobile Money is not the only option. We also accept bank transfer and cash, and we quote prices in cedis, dollars, pounds or euros. If you are a visitor or diaspora traveller paying from abroad or in a foreign currency, we agree the amount in your currency and you settle the cedi equivalent — by MoMo once you have a local number, by transfer, or in cash on arrival. Whatever the method, the figure is fixed in writing first, and no payment is ever taken on the website itself.
Agree your car and price with us, then settle the deposit by Mobile Money, transfer or cash. One written quote, one clear receipt.
To book, tell us your vehicle, dates and pickup. We send a written quote, and once you are happy, our official Mobile Money (or bank) details for the deposit. You pay from your phone, keep the confirmation, and the car is held. Simple, fast, and on the rails Ghana already runs on.
Payment details are reviewed October 2026. Always confirm our official account name before sending any Mobile Money payment. No payment is taken on this website.
