4x4 Hire in Ghana

When the road runs out, you need genuine four-wheel drive. Here’s the 4x4 fleet we hire for off-road, upcountry, mining and field work — and how to pick the right one.

Plenty of Ghana’s roads are smooth tarmac — and plenty are not. For deep upcountry travel, the rainy-season mud of the north and Volta, mining and construction sites, NGO field projects and anywhere the tarmac gives way to laterite and ruts, you need a genuine four-wheel-drive vehicle. A 2WD SUV looks the part but gets stuck where a real 4x4 keeps going. This is the fleet we hire for exactly those conditions.

When you need a 4x4

Choose a 4x4 over a regular SUV when your route involves unpaved roads, river crossings, steep or broken ground, or the rains. The difference is not cosmetic: four driven wheels, low-range gearing and real ground clearance are what get you through mud and sand that strand a two-wheel-drive vehicle. For field teams, site work and serious upcountry trips, it is the difference between arriving and being recovered.

The 4x4 range

  • Toyota Hilux Double Cab (Navara, L200) — the pickup workhorse: crew plus a load bed. Our Hilux guide has the detail.
  • Toyota Fortuner (Pajero Sport) — a 7-seat 4x4 for teams and families over rough ground.
  • Land Cruiser Prado (Pajero) — serious capability with comfort.
  • Land Cruiser V8 / hardtop (Lexus LX) — the toughest, most durable option, favoured by organisations for the hardest terrain.

Book a 4x4

Tell us the terrain, the dates and whether you need a driver. We’ll match the right 4x4 and quote one clear price.

2WD or full 4x4?

Be honest about your terrain. Dry tarmac and good gravel rarely need four-wheel drive — a 2WD saves money. Mud, sand, river crossings or the rains demand genuine 4x4. Plan for the worst day you’ll face, not the average one, and tell us the route so we match the right drive type — our Hilux guide covers this choice in detail.

How to book

Send us the terrain and regions, your dates, and whether you want self-drive or a driver. We’ll recommend the right 4x4 and confirm one clear price. No payment on the website.

Rates are guide figures reviewed October 2026, before fuel and deposit. 4x4 availability and specification vary; confirm when booking.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hire a 4x4 in Ghana?
Yes. We hire genuine four-wheel-drive vehicles — Hilux, Fortuner, Land Cruiser Prado and V8 — for off-road, upcountry, mining and field work, self-drive or with a driver.
When do I need a 4x4 rather than an SUV?
When your route involves unpaved roads, river crossings, steep or broken ground, or the rainy season. A 2WD SUV gets stuck where a genuine 4x4 keeps going.
How much does 4x4 hire cost in Ghana?
Guide rates from GH₵ 1,300/day for a Hilux or Fortuner self-drive, GH₵ 1,600 for a Prado with driver, GH₵ 2,200 for a V8. Long-term and project rates are lower.
What's the toughest 4x4 you hire?
The Land Cruiser V8 and hardtop models are the most durable, favoured by organisations for the hardest terrain and longest distances. The Hilux pickup is the classic field workhorse.
Do you offer 4x4s for NGO or mining projects?
Yes. We supply field-ready 4x4s with long-term and contract rates and invoicing for NGOs, missions and the mining and oil sector. See our NGO and industry hire guides.
