Hourly Car Hire With a Driver in Accra: How It Works

Sometimes you do not need a car for the whole day. You need one for three hours of meetings in Ridge, a stop at Makola, a clinic appointment and the drive back to the office. Hourly car hire with a driver is built for exactly that. You book a block of time, a professional driver takes you where you need to go, and you keep the car between stops without paying for a full day you do not use. Here is how it works with CarRentalGH, what shapes the price, and how to choose and book.

When an hourly booking makes sense

Hourly hire fits short, clustered trips: the kind of day where you are in one area, or moving between a few nearby places, and the total time comes to a handful of hours rather than a whole day. The most common cases we see are:

  • Business meetings: a morning of client visits across town, or a meeting in one area with a drive back to the office afterwards.
  • A few errands: the bank, a passport office, a supplier, the post office and a pharmacy, all in one loop.
  • Shopping runs: a trip to a market or mall with bags to carry and a car to leave them in between stops.
  • Hospital and appointment trips: when you would rather not be the one navigating Accra traffic on the way there or back, and want a reliable car waiting for the return.
  • Short city tours: a few landmarks and a lunch stop, without committing to a long day.
  • Airport and back: dropping someone at Kotoka and returning to town, or collecting a visitor and taking them on to a hotel or meeting.

If your plan is genuinely a long journey, such as a drive to Cape Coast and back, a half-day or full-day booking is usually the more sensible fit. We will tell you that on the phone rather than sell you hours you do not need.

How hourly hire works

An hourly booking is simple, but a few details matter, so it helps to know them before you call.

  • A minimum block. Every hourly booking starts with a minimum number of hours. The exact minimum depends on the vehicle and where you are going, and it is stated in your quote. Ask us for it up front.
  • The driver stays with the booking. Your professional driver stays on the job for the hours you have booked. Within that time the driver waits while you are in a meeting, a shop or a clinic, so you come out to a car that is ready rather than flagging down a taxi.
  • You keep the car between stops. You do not get out, return the car and pick up another one. The vehicle stays with you, so bags can stay in the boot and you can change the plan as the morning goes on.
  • Give us the route. Share the stops in order, with rough times. Travel between stops counts toward your hours, so a loop that looks short on a map can take longer in Accra traffic.

Our drivers know the city's roads and the difference between a quick drop-off and a long wait. If a meeting runs over, tell the driver or message us as early as you can, so the rest of the plan can be adjusted rather than rushed.

What hourly hire costs and how we quote it

We do not publish a fixed hourly price table, because the right figure depends on three things: the vehicle, the number of hours and the route. Quotes are given by hours and vehicle, and the exact price comes back to you on WhatsApp so there are no surprises later.

For a sense of scale, our full-day rates start at GH₵800 for a Corolla, GH₵1,200 for a RAV4, GH₵1,600 for a Prado and GH₵2,200 for a 30-seat Coaster. Those are daily rates. Short hourly and half-day blocks are quoted for the hours you actually need, so ask for a figure based on your own plan.

When you ask, tell us:

  • Your pick-up point and time.
  • Each stop, in order, with rough timing.
  • The approximate total hours, and whether any stop is outside Accra, such as Kasoa or the Cape Coast road.
  • How many passengers, and how much luggage or shopping you will carry.
  • Whether you have a vehicle in mind, or would like us to recommend one.

Ask what the quote covers, including fuel, parking and tolls, so you know exactly what you are paying for. If your day includes an airport run, Kotoka Airport transfers start from GH₵450, which is a useful reference point when you compare options.

Hourly, half-day or full day: which to choose

The three options are not competing products. They are different lengths of the same service, and the right one depends on how long you will actually need the car.

  • Hourly: best for a short, focused block in one or two nearby places, such as a morning of meetings, an airport drop-off or a set of errands.
  • Half-day: better when the plan is longer and spread out, such as a long morning across several parts of Accra, or a lunch-and-shopping afternoon in one direction.
  • Full day: the right fit for long distances, such as Cape Coast and the coastal towns, or any day when the car is needed from early morning until late with frequent movement.

A simple test: add up the time you will be moving, plus the time you will spend sitting in a meeting or shop, then add a buffer of at least thirty minutes for traffic. If the total is a few hours, go hourly. If it stretches across most of the day, a half-day or full day is usually the more sensible choice and far less stressful. Ask us for two quotes, one for the hourly block and one for the longer booking, and compare them honestly before you decide.

Which vehicle to pick for a few hours

For a short booking, the right vehicle is usually the one that matches your passengers and luggage, not the one that looks most impressive.

  • Toyota Corolla: a comfortable saloon for one to three passengers with light luggage. Easy to manage in busy traffic and tight parking spaces, and a good match for meetings, errands and airport runs with carry-on bags.
  • Toyota RAV4: an SUV with more room in the boot and a higher seating position. A sensible middle choice for families, extra shopping, or trips where the road conditions are less predictable.
  • Toyota Prado: the choice for more space, more luggage and rougher roads, including trips that go outside the city. It carries a larger group comfortably.
  • 30-seat Coaster: for groups, such as office staff, a church or family group, or event transport. Group hourly bookings are quoted on the group size and the route.

If you are unsure, tell us the number of people and bags, and we will suggest the simplest vehicle that fits. We would rather you have the right car for the job than pay for a larger one you do not need.

How to book on WhatsApp or email

Booking is done by message, not on the website. Send your request to WhatsApp +233 24 915 1503, or email info@carrentalgh.com. It is the fastest way to get a real quote and to ask questions before you commit.

  • Send your details: the date, pick-up time and place, the stops in order, approximate hours, passengers, luggage and any preferred vehicle.
  • Receive your quote: the hours, the vehicle and the total, along with what it covers.
  • Confirm the booking: once you agree, we confirm the vehicle, the driver and the plan for the day.
  • Pay by Mobile Money, bank transfer or cash. We do not take payment on the website.

We are based in Accra and Kasoa and cover Greater Accra, Kotoka Airport, Kasoa, Cape Coast and the surrounding coast. For bookings beyond those areas, ask us first, because the route and the hours change the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum number of hours for hourly hire?
Yes. Every hourly booking starts with a minimum block, and the exact minimum depends on the vehicle and where you are going. It is stated in your quote before you pay, so you are never guessing. If your needs are shorter than that minimum, ask us whether a different booking would suit you better.
Does the driver wait while I am in a meeting or a shop?
Yes, within the hours you have booked. The driver waits while you are inside, so you come out to a car that is ready. Time spent waiting counts toward the booked hours. If you expect to be longer than planned, tell the driver or message us, so the rest of the day can be adjusted.
How is hourly car hire priced?
By hours and vehicle, plus the route. We do not publish a fixed hourly table, because the right figure depends on those three things. Message us on WhatsApp with your pick-up, stops, approximate hours, passengers and luggage, and we will send an exact quote. Ask what it covers, including fuel, parking and tolls.
Is hourly cheaper than booking a full day?
It depends on the shape of your day. If your stops fit into a few focused hours in one area, hourly is usually the sensible choice. If the day spreads across Accra or runs out toward Cape Coast, a half-day or full day can make more sense than stopping and starting again. Ask for quotes for both and compare them. For reference, our full-day rates start at GH₵800 for a Corolla.
Which vehicle is best for a short booking?
For one to three people with light luggage, a Corolla is the simplest choice. A RAV4 suits families or extra shopping, a Prado suits more luggage and rougher roads, and a 30-seat Coaster is for groups. Tell us your numbers and we will suggest the smallest car that fits comfortably.
How do I book, and how do I pay?
